A Message from Andrew Hay, Interim Provost and Vice President Academic

Colleagues,

I am pleased to inform you that after an extensive search that generated interest from candidates across the country, has found its new Associate Vice President Educational Services (AVPES) from within.

Yvonne Moritz will transition into this new role over the next few weeks and will continue to serve as Dean of Science, Technology and Health until such time as we have a replacement in place. We are very grateful to Yvonne for her continued service and dedication to the portfolio she has led for the past decade.

“I am excited about the opportunity to move into the AVP role and look forward to serving the College more broadly”, says Moritz. “These are challenging times and I am very committed to helping the College move through the pandemic and into a positive future”.

In her new role, Yvonne will be responsible for assisting in supporting the educational mandate of the College in various ways, including leadership related to annual programming planning and review, enrolment management, academic policies and regulations, and labour management.

Yvonne holds both a Master of Advanced Nursing Practice and a Master of Adult Education and has worked in various educational and administrative roles for over 25 years, including as a nurse educator and manager at BC Children’s Hospital and as a clinical educator for several BC post-secondary institutions. She was a faculty member and chair in the pediatric department for specialty nursing at BCIT and later became the Associate Dean for Specialty Nursing prior to coming to as Dean of STH.

During her time with STH, she has led the development of six new programs and multiple one-time funded programs and has steadily increased overall student enrollments in the portfolio.  She has also worked closely with the College’s instructional bargaining units and has been a member of various bargaining and caucus committees. Yvonne is currently the academic representative on the board for Technology Accreditation Canada and involved with national and provincial accrediting bodies for the College’s health programs. More recently, she has been focusing on globalization, Indigenous curriculum integration, industry and post-secondary partnerships both locally and internationally, as well as supporting research within the STH portfolio.

Yvonne’s record of success as a post-secondary leader, her commitment to excellence, her deep understanding of ’s programs and operations, coupled with her breadth of knowledge of the College sector are just some of the factors that make her a great fit for this role. We are extremely fortunate to have the benefit of her skills, knowledge and experience at the College’s Executive leadership table.
I hope you will join me in congratulating Yvonne on her new role at .
